Change to the Dinner in the Park Ministry
After its beginning in July 2021, our beloved Dinner-in-the-Park ministry is coming to an end. But it’s also morphing into something new and exciting. In an effort to move the neighborhood navigation center out of Alameda Park, and also to further serve our unhoused neighbors, the FARO Daytime Navigation Center will open later this month at 621 Chapala St. Trinity will be providing lunch for guests at the FARO Center on the 4th Thursday of every month. FARO stands for Fostering Access, Resilience, and Opportunity, and “faro” means lighthouse or beacon in Spanish. The center will provide important services to guide people through the housing process. We are thrilled to be a part of supporting this center and continuing to provide meals for our unhoused neighbors. If you are interested in helping make the lunch sacks or handing them out at the center, please sign up or contact the Rev. Sarah Thomas at sthomas@trinitysb.org.
There may be another possibility on the horizon to provide a hot meal elsewhere, so stay tuned. Thank you to all the many volunteers (65 in total!) for showing up and cooking, shopping and driving, and serving and laughing, and blessing and bringing Christ’s love and hospitality to a corner of our town. It was a little bit of magic once a month, when we offered a hot, home-made, delicious meal, rain or shine. We fed roughly 70 people each time, with plenty of food for seconds and thirds. Many, many relationships have grown due to this wonderful ministry—relationships with our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, and special relationships within our parish. We are grateful to Teresa Pietsch who has been our “kitchen boss” from the very beginning (and who will continue to help us with the sack lunches and possible future evening meals.) You all made such a difference, and we had a great time doing it. I am very much looking forward to what the new iteration will be.
